Under feeding: Like overfeeding, underfeeding also has many associated complications. If you underfeed your pet they can become malnourished and can be at risk for:

  • Arthritis
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Hypertension
  • Liver and kidney failure
  • Cancer
  • Immune deficiency

Over feeding:

First, it is vital that you understand the health problems associated with overfeeding your pet. If you overfeed your pet, they can become obese, lethargic, and will be at a much higher risk for:

  • Diabetes
  • Joint issues such as arthritis and hip dysplasia
  • Heart disease
  • Hypertension
  • Liver disease
  • Cancer

Feeding FAQ’s:

Your pet should have access to fresh, clean drinking water 24/7. Without water, your pet may become seriously ill within hours.

This depends on many factors such as; age, life stage, requirement and health. Having said that, you should feed your pet at least once a day, unless otherwise advised by your vet. Puppies/ Kittens on the other hand can be fed up to 4 times a day until they are 16 weeks old.

Most human foods will lack in nutrition compared to a specific pet food and a lot of foods can be toxic to our pets; please see our list of poisonous foods for further information. Having said that, there are a few human foods that can be given as treats including; Carrots, Watermelon, Blueberries and apples to name a few.

Poisonous or hazardous foods for pets:- 

  • Chocolate
  • Caffeine
  • Onions, garlic, and chives
  • Alcohol
  • Mouldy foods
  • Grapes and Raisins
  • Macadamia nuts
  • Yeast dough
  • Bones
  • Corn on the cob
